The stepwell pool
Twenty-two metres of still water at the head of the baoli, shaded from two in the afternoon. Open 06:00 – 20:00.
The hammam
A domed steam room in the old cistern, lit through star-cut holes in the ceiling. Bookable by the hour, for one or for two.
Yoga chhatri
On the roof at 06:15, every day, in the pavilion. Hatha with Vikram; mats and blankets are there.
The fitness room
Small and properly equipped — Technogym, free weights, and a window that opens. Open around the clock to residents.
Ubtan ritual
Turmeric, gram flour and rose, ground here each morning. The oldest recipe in the house and still the one most asked for.

Dawn on the ghats
Out of the gate at 05:45 with Mohan, who was born four lanes away, down to the river before the city is properly awake. Ends with chai at a stall that has no name.

Forty minutes out to the weavers' village. You will cut nothing — the blocks take years to learn — but you will print, and what you print comes back with you.
